Hi! My name is Erica Kempster and I am currently a teacher candidate at UNBC. I have been working towards my goal of becoming an elementary school teacher throughout my whole journey in education, and am grateful to be one step closer to my career aspiration. I have always been passionate about learning and education, and my intention for teaching is to encourage each student to succeed to the best of their abilities, and be passionate about their learning and educational interests. I hope that I am able to make a positive impact on my future students throughout their learning journey, because every student deserves to learn and thrive. Outside of my passion for learning and education, I love to spend my free time being active, whether that be at the gym, on the ski hill, on the tennis courts, or exploring the back country. I love bringing my dogs with me on my many adventures, where they get to let their zoomies out. Other joys in my life include playing board games with my friends and family, and baking. In my future career as an elementary school teacher, I am hoping to learn about my student’s passions, and see how I can incorporate their passions into the learning environment to foster interesting individual and collective learning experiences. This hope of mine is in compliance to the BC professional standard #1, as my goal will be to respect and value the diversity of each student, foster students’ positive personal identity, and engage students in their own learning, in a meaningful way.
